Tracks the lives of a similar men and how different ways of handling events dramatically affects their lives.

The story starts with the birth of three boys at basically the same time. All three will turn out gay.

One child's parents will be killed in a car accident on the way home from the hospital, leading to him being raised in foster homes. Dramatic swings in his fortunes, and seeing first hand how short life can be, will lead to his living life to the fullest. He will experience great loss and pain, but will also find great happiness at times.

Another will be raised in an Ozzie and Harriet perfect family, protected and avoiding risks, will lead a sheltered life, safe, but also flat and without the highs taking risks can bring. He will commit to the first guy that comes along that feels like committing to him and they'll lead a safe, boring A-gay life, looking snobbily down on the risk takers on the surface, but never truly happy and secretly envious of the highs they get.

The third will live in a religious, negative, "don't do that", "you're worthless" household and will hide in a closet locked so tight, he is homophobic and violent. He marries as much to convince himself that he's straight as to convince everyone else, but carries so much self-hatred, he's hot-tempered and abusive. When he discovers that his own son is gay, he nearly kills both his wife and his son. They get away and he is thrown in jail where he is unable to hide his true nature - he is turned on by threats of rape in the shower. He is forced to endure being a sex object while in prison, and upon release, becomes a homeless drunk eventually found dead under a bridge.
